Hi, welcome to our shop! My name is Aja, Owner and Creator of Mahogany Dreaming. I am a single mother of four daughters...YES, 4 daughters. Needless to say, there's a lot of hair in my home. In all honesty, creating satin bonnets and scarves were more of a necessity than a hobby but the idea truly spawned from paintings I've created. I couldn't find images that were a reflection of my family and culture so I created my own. I chose to create images that I felt were an accurate depiction of the values I've chosen to instill in my daughters. Meditation, knowing that the world is truly theirs to explore and live responsibly in and accomplishing goals are a few of those values you see on our fabrics.
